Hi my dears,

Hope your week was doing okie. Mine was abit busy this week and a little depressing as well, but well that is a story for another day. Besides, who does not have problems and issues of their own??

I will be writing in depth about one of the subscription boxes, something that is associated with books and tea. Enjoy 🙂

I love to drink tea and I love to read books so when I chanced upon this subscription box with international shipping I was highly delighted!

Muse Monthly is a monthly subscription for tea lovers and book lovers. On their website, there is also an online shop that sells all the books, the teas, tote bags, t-shirts and so on. They also have a blog page as well where they share their love for books.

How does it work?

There are 4 different kinds of plans for the monthly subscription boxes.

  1. Monthly: $29.50
  2. 3 Months Prepay: $88.50
  3. 6 Months Prepaid: $159.00
  4. 12 Months Prepaid: $354.00

Prices are in USD.

What did I choose?

I choose the 3 months prepaid because I am not sure if I would like it so much till I could take 6 months but monthly was a bit too short to know if I really liked it.

I paid a total of SGD$216.85 for this box which I thought was I little too much.

My Review

  • It took really long for the first box to arrive in my mail, I did not know if this box belonged to the November or the December box.
  • When I received the box, something was falling from inside the box, apparently the tea leaves had all spilled out of the container and into the box and even out into the sealed box.
  • I quickly emailed them to ask if I could have another container of the tea because the container was dented and all the tea was out. The pages in between my book was also stuck with tea leaves.
  • She quickly expedited the tea delivery and I received my tea within a couple of weeks.

So here you go, the book and the tea I got from Muse Monthly:

The tea is a Herbal Tea called Winter Solstice and the book is The Mortifications by Derek Palacio. I have never seen this book before but the synopsis looks good.

The synopsis:

“In 1980, a rural Cuban family is torn apart during the Mariel Boatlift. Uxbal Encarnación—father, husband, political insurgent—refuses to leave behind the revolutionary ideals and lush tomato farms of his sun-soaked homeland. His wife Soledad takes young Isabel and Ulises hostage and flees with them to America, leaving behind Uxbal for the promise of a better life. But instead of settling with fellow Cuban immigrants in Miami’s familiar heat, Soledad pushes further north into the stark, wintry landscape of Hartford, Connecticut. There, in the long shadow of their estranged patriarch, now just a distant memory, the exiled mother and her children begin a process of growth and transformation.

Each struggles and flourishes in their own way: Isabel, spiritually hungry and desperate for higher purpose, finds herself tethered to death and the dying in uncanny ways. Ulises is bookish and awkwardly tall, like his father, whose memory haunts and shapes the boy’s thoughts and desires. Presiding over them both is Soledad. Once consumed by her love for her husband, she begins a tempestuous new relationship with a Dutch tobacco farmer. But just as the Encarnacións begin to cultivate their strange new way of life, Cuba calls them back. Uxbal is alive, and waiting.”
