Japan Crate Subscription Box (October 2016)

Hello everyone,

It is finally the weekends again.

Let’s start with a quote for this post. I sometimes agree that we would have to break before we shine. We have to learn from our mistakes, learn from people that break us and grow stronger.

Moving on, I am so late on subscription boxes and posting really late as well. Welcome to my first box from JapanCrate. Before I introduce the October Subscription box, I would like to do an introduction on Japan crate itself first.

Japan crate is a San Francisco based online monthly subscription box that sends subscribers candy, snacks and drinks to share their experiences with them from Japan. They used to send directly from the U.S. but they have since relocated the office to Japan which is nearer for me as well. This means faster shipping.

Japan Crate itself has 3 other boxes as well:

  • JapanCrate: 15 candies and snacks
  • Kira Kira Crate: 6-8 Beauty Products
  • Umai Crate: 7-8 Noodle products
  • Doki Doki Crate: 5-7 Kawaii items

One lucky winner every month will win their “SUGOI Crate” which is a giant crate full of Japanese products. Each month has new items that can include video game consoles, oversized candies, Japanese toys/figures, electronics, plushies & more! Sugoi Crate winners are announced on the 1st of each month. Winners are randomly selected from a list of all subscribers for the month.

How it works?

There are 3 kinds of plans that Japan Crate offers:

  1. Mini (USD $12):
    1. 5 Items – half pound crate
  2. Original (USD $25):
    1. 10 Items,
    2. 1 DIY Kit Guaranteed – 1.5 pound crate
  3. Premium (USD $30):
    1. 15 Items,
    2. Includes Drink and
    3. 1 DIY Kit Guranteed
    4. Revolving Bonus Item: which could be a bag of chips, Keychain or DIY kit.

You can cancel the subscription anytime.

When did I start?

This is my first box that I got, subscribed in September 2016.

How did I get to know it?

I was searching on CrateJoy, browsing their range of products when I came across this. Subscribed from Cratejoy, but you can still assess the main Japancrate website for your account details.

What did I get?

I subscribed for the Original packet first, although the Premium one looked pretty good.

How long does it take to reach?

This is their latest schedule for the shipping. As per their email, my box is renewed on the 18th of every month, so I belong to the 2nd shipment wave which will approximately reach on the 28th of every month.

Price I paid?

For the box, the price includes free international shipping which is perfect! So I only need to pay $25.00 USD which comes up to about SGD$37.

First impression on the box

The box is Bright Red in color which is super attractive to me because I love red. Opening the box shows some really cool patterns on the box which is red based and white pattern.

This is after arranging nicely:

There are a number of really interesting products in this crate.

Flatlay of the different products available in the box. From bottom left, to 2nd row left to right:

  • Nama Cream Pie
  • Lovely Halloween Pocky
  • Karu Satsuma Murasaki Imo Flavor (Sweet potato flavor)
  • Zombie Maker Gum
  • Surprise Horror Gum
  • Nyusankin Ikitemasu! Yogurt Candy
  • Potato Chips Shio Flavor
  • Nikuidaizu Pepper Jerky Flavor
  • Nericchi Soft Cider DIY Kit
  • Oshaberi Wan Ko

Detail on the products:

Nama Cream Pie:

Buttery and flaky crust of a pie that comes in a cute heart shape.

Lovely Halloween Pocky:

There were 3 different flavors for the halloween: Strawberry, Apple Pumpkin and Milk. I got the strawberry one and the back is also really cute as well.

Karu Satsuma Murasaki Imo Flavor

Big words but they just mean sweet potato flavor snack. These potatoes are apparently much creamier and sweeter than regular potatoes.

I gave it a try, it was a sweet taste with a salt aftertaste.

Zombie Maker Gum & Surprise Horror Gum

I am probably going to give away this card and temporary tattoo to someone that loves scaring someone.

Nyusankin Ikitemasu! Yogurt Candy

It is a unique candy because it has probiotic bacteria to promote good digestion and comes with a yogurt flavor.

Potato chips Shio Flavor

Rounding out the sweet with a salty chips I think I would need this as I love salty stuff!

The little Indian looks so cute in the picture!

Nikuidaizu Pepper Jerky Flavor

This Jerky is actually made up of soy beans and does not contain meat.

Nericcho Soft Cider DIY Kit

The cider flavored bubbling candy is served on little wafer cones to look like ice cream. Very interesting.

Oshaberi Wan Ko

This means “Chatty Dogs” Each chocolate bar comes with a cute card featuring an adorable puppy.

The cute card I received was a bulldog puppy! so cute! The chocolate bar had alot of nuts inside, it is not really sweet and not as creamy as well.
